Neck and Back Pain

That is a pain in the neck! Among adults, 60% to 80% will experience back pain and 20% to 70% will experience neck pain that interferes with their daily activities during their lifetimes. Here at Flexible Physio we care about you getting back to the things you love. With a number of treatment options (listed below), our experienced therapists will find what is best for your condition and have you back to 100% in no time!

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a modern treatment designed to ease muscular pain. During dry needling, your practitioner inserts several filiform needles into your skin. Filiform needles are fine, short, stainless steel needles that don’t inject fluid into the body. That’s why the term “dry” is used.

Practitioners place the needles in “trigger points” in your muscle or tissue. The points are areas of knotted or hard muscle.

Dry needling has been proven as an effective treatment for many conditions including but not limited to;

  • Neck and Back pain

  • Tennis/Golfers Elbow

  • Shoulder Bursitis

  • Osteoarthritis

Electrotherapy Modalities

We offer a range of electrotherapy modalities including Therapeutic Ultrasound and TENS.

Therapeutic ultrasound is an electrotherapy modality that physiotherapists have used since the 1940s. Through a transmission coupling gel in direct contact with your skin, ultrasound waves transmit via an ultrasound probe.

Therapeutic ultrasound may increase:

  • healing rates

  • tissue heating

  • local blood flow

  • tissue relaxation

  • scar tissue breakdown

TENS stands for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. Transcutaneous means across the skin.

The machine sends pulses of gentle electric current to the electrodes placed on the skin. The current stimulates the nerves near the affected site, desensitizing them and reducing pain.

Manual Therapy

Manual therapy or “hands on” treatment can be used for any injury that causes pain and decreased range of motion. Weak or tight muscles have been shown to be a cause of stiffness, pain and overall reduced function. Manual therapy can help reduce these symptoms and makes it much easier to regain normal movement patterns and restore maximal function. Current research has shown that manual therapy, when combined with therapeutic exercise, provides a beneficial outcome for patients

Hydrotherapy

Flexibility means being able to provide you the best treatment tailored to you. Weight bearing exercises too painful? Why not try therapy in a heated pool. Hydrotherapy can help you in a number of different ways:

  • The warmth of the water allows your muscles to relax and eases the pain in your joints, helping you to exercise.

  • The water supports your weight, which helps to relieve pain and increase the range of movement of your joints.

  • The water can be used to provide resistance to moving your joints. By pushing your arms and legs against the water, you can also improve your muscle strength.

Gym Based Rehabilitation

Exercise is proven to be one of the most effective ways to treat musculoskeletal pain. Often following injury more than a home exercise program is required to return you to full function. Working in the gym allows for a greater range of exercises under higher loads to be performed and will prepare you for the demands of everyday life. Gym programs are particularly useful if you have to work in an environment which requires heavy manual labour or repetitive tasks. Gym programs are also suitable for those looking to get back to the sporting field and ensure that your injury is rehabilitated to a level which will withstand the demands of your chosen sport.
